My Champagne

My Champagne

I am being poured out like a drink offering …

Phil 2:17

Some years ago, we were given a very expensive bottle of Champagne. It looked the part too – posh bottle, gilt labels and an enviable name tag. Inevitably, we decided to keep it for a special occasion and popped it on the shelf to await its special day.

Birthdays came and went. Anniversaries ticked by. Grandchildren were born and we even had a marriage or two. But still it sat there. Would life ever be special enough to celebrate with it?

On reflection, no, because we had become blind to its presence. It had become an ornament, disconnected from the real events of our life. Over time we even forgot who gave it to us and it ceased to be ‘special’.

Life can be like that. You and I are special; very special. There is only one of you in the world. When you pour out your spiritual gifts and natural abilities through your unique personality, it’s like a vintage champagne – unique, flavoursome and special.

Champagne is for drinking and sharing, and your God-given gifts, abilities and personality are just the same. Pour them out. Tell your story. Lay your life down for the cause of Christ. Be able to say like Paul: ‘I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service’ of others (Phil 2:17), an offering that refreshes them and advances the kingdom of God.

Don’t be an ornament. Pop that cork and pour your life out.
