No phone!

No phone!

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5

Have you felt the fear? Even though it’s only been around for a few years, I bet you have. It’s that wave of irrational panic that grips your soul on the sudden realisation that you’ve forgotten your phone!

It happened to me the other day. Halfway around my dog walk it dawned on me … I was out of contact with the world. And in a split second my mind was awash with ‘what ifs’ … what if I’m needed …what if I get stuck in the woods … you know how it goes. It’s silly, but an indicator of how dependent we’ve become on instant information and availability.

It’s how modern life is. But, I wonder, do you ever feel the same about God? Do you ever panic because you seem to have lost contact with Him? Or does God ever think to himself, ‘Where is that Stephen Matthew? Can’t seem to find him anywhere’.

If it were possible, that would indeed be a sensible reason to panic. But thankfully, God is never out of touch with us. He promises, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’ (Hebrews 13:5).

Wherever you are and whatever is going on, if you ‘Come near to God, he will come near to you’ (James 4:8). He is only a prayer away and the signal is never down.
